New images and new brushes

Bit of a back to basics, playing with colour and light and testing some new photoshop brushes, have created some that I am very happy with, here is some work, the interior scene is created using my new brushes. Its an image that has very little detail but a lot of atmosphere, this is my aim in a lot  of images I create. [Show as slideshow]

Major Drawing

About to start a major piece of work that I will spend a few months on, Its going to take the form of a greyscale  drawing on paper. Concept sketches and working drawings will be digital. The title of the drawing is ‘gone are the days’ and its going to be based on an interior scene of a local pub I have frequented on and off for the past 25 years here in Anglesey, N.Wales. I’m in two minds at the moment whether to include some friends and myself or just have the people/characters that have been and gone, There have been a...

Busy again

Busy again

Just thought I would ad something just to prove that I am still alive, have been mad busy lately with some of my own projects, mainly 3d stuff and need another week to finish them off. Will be glad when im done with this one so I can fall back on developing my style in 2d. My last lot of illustrations where more successful to me than they probably where to the client, not saying they didn’t like them, far from it, they have given me a direction within the illustration industry that I have not targeted before. In the past I have always...

Some Illustrations

Some Illustrations

Here a three of  the five illustration I did last week, did five from concept to finished images in six days, bit of a push but am fairly happy with these three. The other two could do with some more work, but have to move on to the next project and as they were ‘in house’ they can be left, not the best practice really as things should be finalized and then put to bed, decision was out of my hands. Interesting job and hope to get more like it, I am certainly going to develop the style/technique in my own time for my personal work...

Editorial Illustration

Editorial Illustration

Work for the next six days- illustrating some digital business concepts, 30 concept sketches, take 10 to the next level and finally six fully finished images. Bit of a tall order if you ask me, but hey, gota try. Not done a lot of this type of illustrating for a long time and forgot how difficult it was. Its not so much the illustrations themselves, they should sort themselves out through the process I have to follow. The hard part is coming up with the concept itself, and getting in the frame of mind in order to get the message of the...

Horsey

If you have looked at my sketches and paintings, you will probably see that horses play a considerable part in my work. This stems from a life of not being to far away from them. I use to ride when I was younger, but havn’t been on one for years now. So I thought it was time to take my knowledge of them and convert it into a piece of work. In the final sculpt there will be two horses, one grazing and one lying on the ground, head up. The overall mood will be one of relaxation, fine weather and no stress! I expect the sculpt to take a few...

Thumbnail sketches

Hi everyone Thought I would bring peoples attention to fact that drawing everyday does not have to be a long drawn out affair,( pardon the pun) but it is an important aspect of becoming a better observer, which in my eyes is what makes a good artist better. Even though the last few days have been very hectic I have still found time to do some drawings, some from life or partially from life, some from my imagination based loosely on what is around me. These have been in the form of thumbnail sketches created on whatever I had with me at the...

More colour studies

hi, Still reading and studying colour theory and trying to make sense of the different areas of the subject. And also fill gaps in my education on the subject. In this latest sketch I was trying to pay more attention to colour temperature to get the effect of a vast landscape, particularly distance. Using colour temperature as a basis and trying to correctly pick the relevant colour in photoshops colour picker, starting from a low value, low saturation and moving to a higher value and saturation, so moving in a diagonal direction. While...

Bit of colour theory, sort of!

Bit of colour theory, sort of!

Been watching and reading all about colour theory, and the consequences when working digitally, although its the same as its always been, I have tended to become a bit confused when it comes to terminology. There are loads of tutorials on the subject al over the net, but I have noticed a trend toward two ways of describing it. The first talks about hue, chroma and value, the other being, temperature, chroma and value. The terminology is more or less the same except temperature is a way of describing colour and its use in painting, colder...
