A zbrush project

Well, been very busy the last few days, sorting a website out, and finally working on a zbrush project that I have been trying to find time to start for a long time. Its now well on it way, but I suspect there will be a few problems to come

I have taken some  snapshots at stages of the build so far, and I will try and explain the procedure  for each photo.

A. This is one of the many ways to start a model in zbrush. Its constructed using what’s called a zsphere. These zspheres join together and can be stretched or compressed, moved in 3d space to create a base structure. This structure can then be posed by moving each end of a zsphere.

B. Once You are happy with your posed model, its time to convert the zspheres to a mesh in order to ‘rough out’ the model. The mesh at this point will not have many polygons( think of chicken wire, only squares instead of hexagons), not in zbrush terms anyway( 25000 maybe). Now you can start building up the shape using a number of ‘brushes’ ,I use the inflate brush to give basic mass to the structure.

C. As the body mass is built up, I start thinking of the structure of the muscles, although I am not going into detail, they will be in my mind all the time. Without a good muscle structure it will not look right, even aliens will have something that holds them together somehow, so these next couple of stages are very important. Finally I have got to the stage where the muscles have been sculpted, and  the  form is correct, I will move on to the next stage which is where I reconstruct the topology in order to create a model with consistent sized polygons and they flow correctly, ready for animation, something i will go into again some time.
